meet the dish!
Jill Donenfeld founded The Culinistas® in 2006 as a means to encourage busy people to eat better – however it's defined for the individual. She has traveled and cooked extensively, deriving pleasure from combining the two – learning culinary techniques in Vietnam, working at an organic garden café in Sweden and penning a cookbook of cuisine from Madagascar over the course of a five-month stay in the country. Her mission is to cultivate personal satisfaction and healthier living through home cooking.
company
From humble beginnings in a make-shift office in the back of a West Village hardware store to servicing clients on both coasts, The Culinistas® have been a labor of love. Jill began writing her business plan just three days after graduating Columbia University. She worked a variety of jobs in NYC's rich culinary industry - from apprenticing with Karen DeMasco to writing restaurant reviews for Time Out New York - during school, culminating in accumulating a roster of private chef clients by the time she graduated. She made the decision to turn her passion into a business and hasn't looked back. The business has grown steadily since 2006 and some of her original Culinistas remain on the team today.
In the fall of 2009, The Culinistas® went bi-coastal. The weekly home chef service is now available to lucky dwellers in NYC, the Hamptons, Los Angeles and Malibu. More recently, The Culinistas® are feeding Chicago.
The Culinistas® do have plans for further expansions... baby steps!
Jill's ventures continue to broaden - from delving more into media personality opportunities to writing more books.
